The Details...

11/16/2011 @ 7:30 am

The sleepless nights are back...  Here's a rundown of the last 13 hours: diaper check, circumcision tending, and feeding at 6 pm, 9 pm, midnight, 4 am, 6:15 am, & 7 am.  Our last wake-up call was Monroe making a noise that sounded like something had crawled into the basinet with him and was chewing on his hand, but it turns out he just wanted to be held ;)  So, we've given up on trying to sleep for now.  We have a mandatory one-hour video that's supposed to help ascertain that we don't kill the little bugger sometime after we leave here, and then a visit from his uncle and grandpa sometime after that.  We get to head out around 2 this afternoon, and we are really looking forward to going home.

11/15/2011 @ 9:50 am

Morning all.  We have a feisty one on our hands.  He fought being delivered until the bitter end, and has been telling us about since he arrived ;)  He's doing well though, just little baby squeaks and noises.  Both he and Holly are doing great, just tired.  They kept us up until after 5 am and with the regular check-ins they do, we still have some sleep to attempt to catch up on.  I did send out a number of texts last night that I'm hearing didn't make it out so I apologize if you were one of the folks left in the dark.  I posted pics of the little guy at the top.

11/15/2011 @ 2:45 am

It's a boy folks!  Monroe Douglas Lohff was born at 1:23 am MST, weighing in at 8 lb 2 oz, and 21" long.  He squawked for his first 20 minutes or so and finally gave in and decided on his first meal.  He's nursing now, and soon we'll get the epidural leftovers pulled out of Holly, get his vitals checked again, and call it a day.  BTW, I highlighted the closest guesses in blue above, looks like the nurse nailed two out of three and Keith took second.

11/15/2011 @ 12:29 am

Holly is now totally out and as far as we can tell, staying at a 9.5.  Both she and the baby are still doing well and all the monitors indicate that things are as they should, we just need to keep waiting and let nature take its course.  We're down to a handful of people left on guessing the ETA, who will it be...

11/14/2011 @ 11:53 pm

Still at a 9.5.  Holly asked what would happen if she started pushing now, as opposed to when she's "completed" (10 cm) and it can apparently lead to complications.  So... we wait for the 10.

11/14/2011 @ 11:34 pm

Holly quote of the hour, "epidural buttons rock."  Coffee no longer seems to be doing much good and the nurse actually just suggested killing the lights so I may go fetal here before long.  Holly is now at a 9.5 so we are getting super close.  The doc is catching a little shut-eye at this point I think too so I should probably follow suit until Holly decides to finish this thing up.  Our current runner-up on the ETA is nurse Kristine.

11/14/2011 @ 10:32 pm

8.5 cm and Dr. Devitt is scrubbed out and ready to go.  Looks like a few folks are about to miss their ETA, except the doctor... I think she may be sand-bagging this thing ;)

11/14/2011 @ 10:10 pm

Dr. Devitt has arrived.  She broke Holly's water and she is now dilated to 8 cm, 100% effaced, and stage +1.

11/14/2011 @ 9:30 pm

Dilated to 7 cm, 100% effaced, and -1 stage (moving farther down into her pelvis).

11/14/2011 @ 8:20 pm

Things are still progressing nicely.  Holly is having regular contractions and really just waiting for things to get going.  Dr. Devitt has been notified and should be heading this direction in the next hour or two to get things going (break her water).  We're watching football and taking guesses on baby's weight, length & ETA.  New pics are posted at the top too!

11/14/2011 @ 5:30 pm

Thing are heating up now.  The epidural was in place about 10 minutes ago and intensity in the room has calmed down drastically!  Contractions were consistently 2 minutes apart and very intense.  Her latest figures are 6 cm dilated, 100% effaced, and still a -2 stage.  Mike and Donna are here and mom and gramma should arrive shortly as well.  Beary & Mike - thanks again for watching Uki!

11/14/2011 @ 3:25 pm

We are back for seconds folks.  Holly has dilated to a 5 since her noon appointment and her contractions have gone from a consistent 5 or 6 to 8+!  We've been admitted, and appear to be here for the long haul.  OK, another contraction - I'm getting back to it.  Stay tuned...

11/14/2011 @ 12:45 pm

Just got back from the doc and Holly is now dilated to 4 cm.  Based on the poking and prodding, the doc says she's much farther along and active labor could easily begin in the next couple of hours.  Of course, that's a big "could".  The baby's head has started to "engage" her pelvis (slide down into it) so that's also a sign of progress.  She figured we have a 50% chance of making it to Friday, but we have a 7 am induction scheduled for Friday morning, just in case.

11/14/2011 @ 6:15 am

Holly's contractions are getting stronger, illustrated by her proportionally slower movement around the house and increased discomfort but alas, no baby yet.  She conveniently has a previously scheduled checkup at 11 am today, at which point we'll know how much progress she's made.  Uki is currently packing waffles into her little gullet at a phenomenal rate and getting a nice film of syrup on everything within a 14" radius of her high chair.  She seems blissfully unaware of the going-ons thus far, but is in for a hell of a paradigm shift one of these days!

11/13/2011 @ 7:30 pm

Evening all - sorry about the lack of updates today, my ISP has been acting up and I haven't been able to get online.  There is definitely progress to report on, but we aren't heading in just yet.  Holly is still having regular contractions, and they are finally increasing in intensity!  We were told to keep an eye out for contractions that require stopping and "breathing through" them or hitting a level of discomfort that warrants an epidural.  Stay tuned, we're going to have this kid one of these days!

11/13/2011 @ 6:30 am

Holly says, "She's lucky enough to be having regular contractions, but unlucky enough to have them deliver a baby for her."  At the advice of grandma, we tried the wive's tale about having a glass of wine to kick things off last night, so Holly got her first booze since February :)  Uki decided that 6:00 am would be a great time to get up, so her breakfast is just about done and day's chaos will really begin.

11/12/2011 @ 6:00 pm

Evening All

Not a whole lot in the way of baby progress.  Holly says that her contractions are still basically where they were this morning so back to football!

11/12/2011 @ 11:00 am

Just got home from labor and delivery, sans-baby.  Turns out the progress that Holly made overnight wasn't enough to warrant keeping us in labor and delivery for another day.  When we left, they said we don't need to come back until it feels like it's time for an epidural or the contractions are so strong that she is actually having to stop and breathe her way through them, neither of which has happened yet.

As of a few hours ago, Holly was still dilated to around 3.5 cm, 50% effaced, and at a stage -2 (whatever that means).  We are now home, and watching football.  Uki is with her aunt (thanks again Tana & Mike!) until this evening.  If Holly hasn't progressed any more before then, we'll go wrangle her.  As we have updates to share, I'll get them posted on this page.

Thanks for everyone's love & support!
Holly, Uki, Josh & Soon you will know ;)

11/11/2011 @ 8:00 pm

Holly's been having regular (every 5 minutes or so) contractions for going on two hours.  Per her doc, we went into labor and delivery!  After a few hours of monitoring and testing, they decided to keep us for the night based on the progress she's made.
